A Brief Summary

 

- Brought up in Kenya

- BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences from University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK

- Ecological research in Vietnam

- Advisor to the Ministry of Environment in Cambodia for 3 years, working in protected area management and community forestry. Learned PRA.

- MA in Rural Development from University of Sussex, Brighton, UK

- Participatory Planning with Australian Aboriginal groups for land management, where I started training people in PRA/PLA

- Community based watershed management advisor in the Forestry Department of East Timor Public Administration. Continued training people in PRA/PLA and started working in sustainable agriculture and agroforestry

- Agriculture rehabilitation project leader in Democratic Republic of Congo. Started training people in sustainable agriculture

- Worked in Sustrainability full time from 2004, which has taken me to Democratic Republic of Congo, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Mongolia, Aceh, Japan, East Timor, Sierra Leone and UK.

- Speak Swahili (East Africa), Khmer (Cambodia) and Tetun (Timor Leste) well enough to conduct training courses in those languages. Speak French well enough to operate in Francophone countries (but not write reports). Beginner level at Indonesian and Japanese.
